TYPES OF FILTERS

MICROFILTER, PURIFIER OR CHEMICAL TREATMENT?

The decision initially depends on the type of water source. Is the water cloudy or clear? Is the water loaded with chemicals? How much drinking water is needed and how rapidly? Do viruses as well as bacteria and protozoa have to be eliminated? We distinguish between Microfilters and Purifiers. Microfilters eliminate protozoa and bacteria, Purifiers additionally eliminate viruses.

Microfilters work perfectly…

  • for trips to remote areas

  • for treating suspect tap water in hotels or public drinking fountains

  • as a purifier, when water is treated with Micropur MP1 after being filtered

Purifiers are the best choice…

  • for trips in heavily populated areas and developing countries with insufficient sanitizing conditions

Advantages of microfilters and purifiers:

  • Simple and easy to use

  • Disinfect the water immediately - no waiting

  • Continuous performance under various conditions

  • Remove dirt particles and sediment from the water

  • Microfilters and purifiers with charcoal reduce chemicals in the water and improve the taste

Things to consider:

  • While they are larger and heavier than tablets, they are able to filter several liters of water and will remove large particles from your water

  • Your filter is a long term investment in your health and safety, so choose one that will withstand the conditions you put it through

  • Rinsing with clean water once in a while will prolong the life of the filter, allowing you to continue to filter water

Advantages of chemical treatment:

  • Economical

  • Lightweight and small

  • Easy to use with exact dosage

  • Micropur MP1 is effective against bacteria, viruses and protozoa

Things to consider:

  • For best results, wait 30 minutes to 4 hours

  • To ensure the clearest and cleanest water, we recommend filtering your water to remove dirt and sediment prior to using Micropur MP1 tablets

  • You may notice a slight taste of chlorine and/or iodine

CERAMIC OR FIBERGLASS?

Ceramic microfilters have a micro-porous layer impregnated with silver, which prevents bacteria growth during prolonged periods when not in use. The pore size of the ceramic is 0.2 microns (bacteria are between 0.2 and 5 microns)

Advantages of ceramic microfilters:

  • Very high filter capacity and service life

  • Also suitable for cloudy water, since it is washable

  • Filter capacity is measurable

  • Silver in the ceramic prevents bacteria growth in the filter element

Things to consider:

  • Our products are made from quality materials, providing you with a protection against bacteria & protozoa that you can't put a price on

  • A ceramic filter may require a little more effort, but keep in mind what you are pushing through the filter

Fiberglass microfilters form a depth filter within two supporting layers with a pore size of 0.2 microns. Here the bacteria and protozoa are trapped mechanically.

Advantages of fiberglass microfilters:

  • Low pumping effort with high filter performance

  • Lower initial cost

  • Lightweight

Things to consider:

  • For the longest life, we recommend rinsing your filter during and after use, as well as allowing it to dry completely before storing

  • Low filter capacity than ceramics
