Ninety days rowing solo across the Atlantic with Katadyn Power Survivor

February 22, 2012

34-year-old Janice Jakait from Germany set out on her mad adventure under the motto of “Row for Silence” on November 23, 2011, in Portugal. Her goal was to row solo across the Atlantic, from Portimao in Portugal to Barbados in the Caribbean, in a rowboat. 3,500 nautical miles or 6,500 direct kilometers of water, perils and impressive natural experiences awaited the young athlete, who wanted to use her adventure to set an example and speak out against underwater noise pollution in the oceans caused by humans. Exactly 90 days later, on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, Janice reached her target harbor in Barbados and thus became the first German to cross the Atlantic in a rowboat. Her exciting blog reveals how she felt after she arrived: “I can hardly type, can barely walk and wobble through the room, have no tears left, am absolutely spent and sunburned, have aches in every muscle, am dead tired, hungry and thirsty, BUT I’ll try to manage at least a short blog entry. IT’S FINISHED!”

Janice produced her drinking water using an electric PowerSurvivor 40 E water desalination device from Katadyn, which was operated using solar panels. In an emergency, she also would have been able to convert the device for manual operation. Janice also had special food from Trek’n Eat and Peronin on board with her. We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Janice on her great success!
